STAR data analysis

What? For ELT today I worked together with 2 other learning coaches to co-construct STAR data reports.
So what? We analysed the data
Now what? We outlined interventions that will be provided to support and accelerate the learners.

Community Connections

 What? Community Connections

So What?

  • We discussed the results of our Making connections session from January 2017.
  • We also discussed key information for Kahikitea (Maori Education Plan) and PEP (Pasifika Education Plan) and what it means for us OrmPS.

Now What?

  • We ideated future teaching practise informed by Kahikitea, PEP.
  • We identified a way forward for Te Reo practice here at OrmPS.
Challenges I see for myself as an educator moving forward with my learning today?
  • Strategies to use to move the Maori and Pasifika target learners to expectation.

Safe to fail probe

What? Safe to fail probes

So What? Safe to Fail Probes are:
  • Low risk, high interest- what will make a difference?
  • Something that is an opportunity to make something more likely.
  • A method to trial multiple things/inquiries at once. StFs work when there are multiple experiments focussing on the same purpose.
  • Amplifiable: If one ‘inquiry’ seems to be working we will amplify it (eg. add more time, money and/or energy into it)
Now what?
What can we quickly change or try or tweak about what we are already doing to bring in the use of the OrmPS Maths progressions and hub?

Below is our habitat safe to fail probe leading into our spiral of inquiry.

LH1 SAFE to Fail Probe (not fail safe) - leading into our Spiral of Inquiry…
Name of Experiment
Maths Hub Day
Name of Experimenters
John Dyer, Radha Moopanar, Priscilla Lavakula, Talia Morgan
Description of Experiment
Once a week on Wednesday learners are divided up according to their abilities and are grouped in their stages. One LC is assigned to each group and facilitates learners using the maths hub to update their mathematics learning progressions.
Rationale for Experiment
What can we quickly change or try or tweak about what we are already doing to bring in the use of the OrmPS Maths progressions and hub?
It gives learners and LC’s the opportunity to tailor the learning to specific needs, as well as monitoring progress and their next learning steps.
Indications of Success
Learners are able to and know where/how to access the maths hub, they are able to articulate what they are learning and mark off the progressions as they achieve them. Learners are engaged and are enjoying the maths hub day.
Indications of Failure
Learners are having difficulty accessing the maths hub and are unable to articulate what they are learning. Learners are off-task and migrating toward their peers elsewhere.
Amplification Strategy
(scale it)
Roll maths hub day more than one day a week. Apply to a problem solving context e.g. on Friday, 4 maths, open-ended provocations that require the week’s learned skills to be applied. Rotate around the different stage groups.
Recovery / Dampening strategy (stop it!)
Revert back to doing maths in hapu groups.

Actions
Responsibility for Actions

Grouping learners by stage (All LC’s)
Assigning LC to a stage group (All LC’s)
Introducing the learners to the maths hub and progressions (All LC’s)
Learners share learning with home so that they can fill in what they have achieved in the past - parents can then all see what the learners are capable of.

Maths Progressions

What? Maths progressions

So what? Today for ELT we uploaded the Maths progressions onto the learner's learning pathways on the my progress page.

Now what? I will go in with them and tell them when they achieve something.

Assessments

What? Assessments: AsTTle writing

So what? For ELT this week we moderated our AsTTle writing scripts together with our team. We then had to come to consensus when scoring and explain why we gave the learner that score using the rubric.

Now what? This helped us to get a better understanding of using the rubric. We now can feel more confident when marking the rest of our scripts.
