Lead learning coach

In term 1, in line with the pedagogical core (Organisation), I was responsible for ensuring that a number of things are ‘getting done’ within my habitat.  This is a rotated role with all LCs gaining experience within the year.  The purpose is to help us all strive for our vision, providing some clarity while offering opportunities to streamline and simplify.

As Lead Learning Coach I endeavoured to ensure that:

Educators
-iDesign time was focused (both scheduled release and after school) and minuted in shared LH Agenda doc
-MATES (example) were co-constructed and followed by the team
-our LH Narrative Tracker was updated
-our LH Relievers were supported (design, WeInteract, ‘OrmPSness’)
-we had a daily team “pre-brief” each day at 3pm for 10 minutes
-we had a habitat meeting once a week at 3pm on a Wednesday.
-we liaised with the ELL Team Leader to ensure ELLs are being supported
-I communicated with SLT regarding LH queries
-I supported our team to engage in Collaborative Spiral of Inquiry and/or Safe to Fail experiments
-we had a team member in the PB4L team

Learners
-the assessment schedule was adhered to and support was requested as needed
-transitions were signalled with tambourine and lights
-our habitat monitors were managed/supported (reminded)
-new learners were inducted and assessed as needed
-our school wide PB4L approach was visible and embraced
-we had an effective system for notices
-we co-created a termly newsletter
-Routines for the LH eg. all learners have a labelled cubby and keep it clean, expectations after iBreaks, lining up ‘capable moving’, checking they’ve used spaces appropriately afterwards
-all learners contributed to their Learning Pathway (as appropriate)
-all learners reflected daily
-we had a system for daily checking in/out of LH

Content
-The date was changed each day on the WB
-The daily LH timetable was visible
-The iDesign sheet/doc was complete and updated weekly
-Design was inclusive (especially catering for Deaf/ELL learners) in iExperience (eg. need visual prompts and written instructions)
-our habitat website was updated weekly
-our habitat blog had regular weekly posts
-there was equity in device use in the LH

Resources
-Book bags were being used daily with 2 books

-Devices were accounted for, on charge and locked/put away daily
-Provocations and play were being infused into the learning programme
-our habitat was clean and tidy at the end of each Learning Block
-All resources (eg. books, games, stationery etc.) were put away and kept in good condition/replenished
-Daily 5 and Daily 3 resources were created, stored and monitored daily

Safe to fail experiment

What? Jigsaw collaboration

So what? Each habitat assigned a member from their habitat a number from 1-4. All 1s, 2s, 3s and 4s met together to discuss how they introduced the Maths Hub and progressions. We recorded our connections on a document. We then shared back to our habitats. Thereafter we adjusted our safe to fail experiment.

Now what? We are now preparing for the launch of our collaborative  spiral of inquiry in term 2.
